VIP Marmoset Encounter

We have launched a new VIP Marmoset Encounter at the Haven.

The Marmoset VIP Encounter is a once in a life time experience allowing visitors the rare opportunity to get close enough to hand feed and interact with these New World Primates and discuss their habits with one of our keepers. This experience is unique and unforgettable and also serves as good enrichment for the animals.

For Bookings please ring (01983) 530 885, email benjamin@owlandmonkeyhaven.co.uk or visit our website.

*Limited spaces per day. Encounters take place at specific times so must be booked in advance or on the day at least an hour before the encounter. Terms and conditions apply.

Black & White Ruffed Lemurs

We are very excited to be welcoming two Black & White Ruffed Lemurs from Howletts Zoo in Kent. They are Mother Tornado and daughter Crotchet.

Native to the Island of Madagascar, this particular sub species of lemur holds the conservation status 'critically endangered'. They are currently 2 of only a handful of their kind on the Island and can seldom be seen anywhere else in the country.

All the team here at the Haven are looking forward to the arrival of the Lemurs, Owner Don Walser says; “It’s another exciting arrival for us at the Haven and we are looking forward to homing such an extremely rare and interesting pair of animals. I’m sure they will enjoy their new home as much as we’ll enjoy caring for them!”

Spotlight Feature

Each month we will be doing a spotlight feature on one of our inhabitants and why not start with everyone’s favourite…….Martin the mad Capuchin!!

Martin is our white fronted capuchin and is the most mischievous of our family, the keepers are kept very busy in the wake of his destruction!.

Martin is the most intelligent of our primates at the haven and therefore requires extra care and enrichment. He is in a temporary enclosure until we can either, find him a mate or afford to build him a new and larger enclosure, or hopefully do both!. His enclosure has just had a big makeover and we are always thinking of new puzzles for him to work out, it takes the keepers allot longer to think of the puzzles than it does Martin to work them out!!

Martin is the only white fronted capuchin left in the UK and we are actively trying to find him a companion, we are currently in talks with the European stud book keeper for cebus capuchinus in France who we hope can help us. This will be a lengthy and possibly expensive process but we think Martin is worth it. We would then like to build a new purpose built enclosure for the pair of them. All adoptions of Martin will obviously help with this and the extra enrichment he requires.
